Magnitude 8.2 Earthquake in Chile isn't April Fool's Joke, Six Confirmed Dead

-Death toll from earthquake in Northern Chile has risen to six. According to the Interior Minister Rodrigo Penailillo, most of the victims killed by falling debris or heart attacks.
-Chile's Navy lifted tsunami warnings for all of Chile long coastline at around 7 a.m. local time (11 a.m. GMT).
-According to the Chile's navy reports, the first tsunami wave arrived on the coast within 45 minutes of the quake.
-Around 23 flights canceled due to the closure of airports in northern Chile.
-All classes in Aria and Parinacota regions cancelled today.
-The state of emergency declared in northern provinces.

M 8.2 massive earthquake shakes Northern Chile today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 95 km NW of Iquique. It was 7.7 miles deep.

A tsunami alert has been issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre for all of Latin America's Pacific coast. The Chile's emergency office has warned that a large tsunami wave would hit Robinson Crusoe island and others in the Juan Fernandez archipelago.

Some roads in northern Chile have been blocked by landslides.

According to the USGS, the April 1, 2014 M 8.2 earthquake in northern Chile occurred as the result of thrust faulting at shallow depths near the Chilean coast. 

Yesterday a letter featuring the USGS agency's logo was apparently sent to area residents and circulated online in California. USGS later mentioned that it does not predict earthquakes and 7.4 earthquake warning is just April Fool's Joke send by anonymous. The letter claimed "California is issuing a statewide warning" with five communities -Westminster, Santa Ana, Long Beach, Newport Beach and La Habra in high risk zone. Hundreds of aftershocks have been recorded in La Habra since March 28.

Chile is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries.
