NWS issues Civil Emergency Message today in Alabama

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Civil Emergency Message for multiple counties in Central Alabama.

The Civil Emergency Message has been issued for Marion, Winston, Lamar, Fayette, Walker, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Bibb, Shelby, Jefferson, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Clay, Randolph, Calhoun, Cleburne, Cherokee, Etowah, Blount, and St. Clair counties of Alabama.

"Cold air moving into the region Monday night could cause hazardous road conditions as moisture freezes," AL.com has written.

According to NWS, numerous roadways may become hazardous overnight and, in some cases, impassible and advised against travel except for emergency purposes.

Civil Emergency Message is a warning created by the National Weather Service (NWS) meant to warn of an in-progress or imminent significant threat to public safety and/or property. A civil emergency warning can be a local or a national.
