Super typhoon Chan-Hom prompts HIGHEST ALERT in China - More than 1 million evacuated

Super typhoon Chan-Hom made landfall on Saturday afternoon in east China's Zhejiang province, causing evacuation of more than 1 million people.

On Friday morning, China's Meteorological Center had raised "red warning of typhoon" for Zhejiang and Fujian province. At 9:00 a.m. on July 10, China Meteorological Administration (CMA) had also elevated emergency response to level I, the highest level  to address super typhoon Chan-Hom.
  
According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center,  Chan-hom's center was over the Yellow Sea about 185 miles southwest of Seoul, the capital of South Korea at 5 p.m. local time Sunday.

"More than 1 million people were evacuated in eastern China as Typhoon Chan-Hom made landfall Saturday afternoon," USA Today reported. According to Xinhua, Chan-Hom could be the strongest typhoon to hit Zhejiang in over 65 years.

At least 27 people have been injured by Chan-hom in Okinawa, according to Fuji TV. Authorities in Zhejiang said the province may face 1.9 billion yuan ($410 million) in economic losses, with agriculture the worst affected, Xinhua said

According to Channel NewsAsia, the storm has grounded more than 150 domestic flights in South Korea.  A strong wind and rainstorm alert has been issued along South Korea's southern and western coastal areas.

Korea Meterological Administration (KMA) has issued a strong wind advisory for the following areas: Anshan, Siheung, Gimpo, Incheon, Ganghwa, Osan, Pyeongtaek, Hwaseong, Ongjin, Taean, Dangjin, Seosan, Boryeong, Seocheon, Hongseong, Goheung, Boseong, Yeosu, Suncheon, Jangheung, Gangjin, Haenam, Muan, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, Mokpo, Sinan (Heuksan-myeon) exemption), Jindo, Gochang, Buan, Gunsan, Gimje, Ulleungdo.Dokdo, Busan, Ulsan, Changwon, Geoje, Namhae, Jeju-do mountainous territory, Jeju-do west, Jeju-do north, Jeju-do east, Jeju-do south.

Typhoon Chan-hom (Typhoon Falcon in Philippines) is the ninth named storm of the annual typhoon season. Another typhoon, Nangka, is making its way northwest in the Pacific, potentially on target to hit Japan on Thursday.
