Emergency Cabinet meeting called after severe flooding hits Guyana

Heavy rainfall has triggered severe flooding in Guyana, a country on South America’s North Atlantic coast. President David Granger has called an emergency Cabinet meeting to discuss measures to drain the capital and other areas, AP reported.

Meteorological Organization has recorded more than 10 inches of rainfall in Georgetown in less than 24 hours.

According to Demerara Waves Online News, severe flooding has forced the closure of Guyana’s state-owned radio and television stations and at least one private radio station and the Turkeyen Campus of the University of Guyana.

More rainfall is predicted on Friday with fear of further floods.
