Avalanches in France kill 5 including Austrian and Italian

Five skiers have been killed in two separate avalanches in the French Alps on Wednesday.

Three skiers, two Austrian and one Italian, were killed in an avalanche on the Massif des Ecrins in the French Alps, Radio France Internationale (RFI) reported.

The avalanche occurred in the Col Emile Pic near France's Ecrins national park. The victims were part of a group of 11 tourists.

Another, two mountaineers were found dead  in Dévoluy.

A team of over 50 firefighters and specialist police rescuers with sniffer dogs were dispatched to help with the search, The Local France reported.

An avalanche in the Queyras mountain range in the French Alps had claimed lives of six skiers in January this year.
