Farmers are facing poor rainfall for almost five successive years in Tharparkar district of Pakistan.
The ongoing drought has claimed more than 500 lives in three years. The provincial government had also appealed to foreign donors to help mitigate the drought situation last year.
Thar areas have been witnessing famine-like conditions for ages with average annual rainfall less than 250 mm.
"Thar government has planned to install 750 Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants in the Thar Desert by July 2015,” Tharparkar Relief Committee (TRC) said as quoted by Inter Press Service (IPS) in January.
According to a report issued by the Economic Survey of Pakistan, the drought is one of the factors responsible for poor growth performance in the country.
