Scotland launches its first national flood risk management plan

Scotland formally launched the country's first national flood risk management plan on Monday.

The flood risk management plan comprises 14 separate local strategies and identifies a total of 42 flood protection schemes that have been proposed for action over the next five years at a total cost of £235m.

Flood Risk Management Strategies coordinate efforts to tackle flooding in Scotland and set national direction of future flood risk management, helping to target investment and coordinate actions across public bodies, Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) mentioned.

"The national flooding plan was an important and necessary step towards reducing the possibility of similar damage being caused by flooding in the future," BBC reported quoting Environment Minister Aileen McLeod.
