Recent floods in Kazakhstan affect 1,760 houses

Recent floods in Karaganda Oblast in Kazakhstan have affected 1,760 houses in 35 villages, Tengrinews reported quoting the Oblast's Department of Emergency Situations.

Sharp rise in temperature caused melting of snow and triggered flooding in Semey and Ayagoz districts in Kazakhstan.

All of the residents of Aksu village in Shet district and Zhastlek in Bukharzhyrau district have been evacuated.

The first wave of flooding in Karaganda Oblast occurred between March 23 and 29 affecting four districts in the Oblast followed by the second wave of floods starting on 6 April.

Now, the flood threat extends to Astana suburbs located near the riverbed of Nura, Tengrinews added.

No fatalities have been reported, the Emergency office confirmed.
Several rescue efforts have been carried out with the help of fire service, military and rescue teams of the Department of Emergency Situations of Almaty and Karaganda Oblasts.
