The latest update of the Yellowstone volcano by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) has shown total 178 registered earthquakes in the Yellowstone National Park region in January 2015.
The largest event in Yellowstone National Park was a small earthquake of magnitude 1.9 on January 20, at 9:03 PM MST, located 6 miles north of West Yellowstone, Montana.
Around 135 earthquakes occurred on January 20 to 21st, about 6 miles north of West Yellowstone, Montana. The Yellowstone earthquake swarm magnitude was between -0.7 to 1.9.
"Yellowstone earthquake activity has returned to near background levels," USGS has mentioned. January earthquakes are more than double recorded in the Yellowstone National Park region in December 2014.
The alert level of recent volcanic activity in Yellowstone National Park is “normal” and current aviation color code is “green.”
Yellowstone National Park is the world's first national park located in the United States.
