Cyclone Marcia forecast to make landfall as category two storm

Cyclone Marcia which formed off Queensland's coast of Australia is expected to intensify to make landfall as a category two cyclone early on Friday.

Tropical Cyclone Marcia has developed over the central Coral Sea and is expected to make landfall on the eastern Queensland coast between St Lawrence and Hervey Bay early on Friday, The Australia Government Bureau of Meteorology has mentioned in the update issued at 11:04 pm EST Wednesday.

The Bureau of Meteorology said  gales to develop about coastal and island communities between Sarina and Double Island Point on Thursday during the late afternoon or evening. Destructive wind gusts to 150 km/hr may develop about the coast and islands near the centre on Friday morning.

Similarly, the coastal residents between St Lawrence and Double Island Point are specifically warned of the dangerous storm tide.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Lam

Similarly, severe tropical cyclone Lam was located 155 kilometres north northwest of Nhulunbuy and 155 kilometres northeast of Elcho Island at 1:01 am CST.

According to the Australia Government Bureau of Meteorology, "very destructive winds with gusts greater than 170 kilometres per hour will continue over the Wessel islands tonight and are expected to extend onto the mainland coast between Milingimbi and Gapuwiyak late Thursday.

"The State Emergency Service has already handed out 6,500 sandbags in the Brisbane suburb of Newmarket," ABC has written.

In north Queensland, the biggest king tides of the year is expected Thursday in Townsville, north Queensland, peaking at or above 4.05 metres.
