Floods in Indonesia's Aceh displaces 120,000; emergency declared

Floods in Indonesia's Aceh province in the northern tip of Sumatra Island have displaced more than 120,966 people.

The waters submerged by up to 400 cm high in the districts of North Aceh and East Aceh, Xinhua has written quoting Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of national disaster agency.

Floods have mainly affected provincial capital of Banda Aceh, the districts of Aceh Tamiang, South Aceh, Pidie, and Lhoksemawe.

Emergency relief aids have been sent to the evacuation centers, Sutopo said.

The local authorities have declared an emergency in Bandung to deal with the extraordinary situation. "The state of emergency, effective as of Tuesday, will last seven days, or until Dec. 29, and could be extended depending on the situation,” The Jakarta Post has written quoting Bandung Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Marlan.
