The worst snowstorm in 50 years hit Harbin, capital of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province for 60 hours claiming lives of at least four people, Xinhua reported.
Average daily snowfall in the city have reached 11.4 mm starting on Saturday. This is the highest level when consecutive weather recording began in the city since 1961.
All kindergartens, primary and high schools in the urban areas will be closed on Monday and Tuesday.
The National Meteorological Center on Tuesday issued a blue alert for snowstorms.
According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the National Commission for Disaster Reduction, natural disasters across China claimed 20 lives in October, 2013.
