Boat escaping Cyclone Mahasen sinks in Myanmar, 200 missing

A boat carrying about 200 Rohingya Muslims has capsized off western Myanmar, Aljazeera says quoting UN officials.

Following Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) official, there is only one person lucky to get survived.

The victims in the boat were escaping Cyclone Mahasen which is expected on Thursday and Friday but struck rocks off the Pauktaw township in Rakhine State and sank.

Myanmar has already moved more than 5,000 people from low-lying camps in the Rakhine state capital, Sittwe, to safer shelter ahead of cyclone Mahasen.

Cyclone Nargis in 2008  killed more than 130,000 people in Myanmar.

Flooding caused by the cyclone Mahasen in Sri Lanka has already claimed two and injured eight others. Heavy rainfall caused by cyclone Mahasen in Andhra Pradesh, India killed eight and injured four others yesterday. Detail report on cyclone Mahasen can be found here.
