Landslides, floods in Nepal kill more than 70

At least 74 people have died in landslides and floods in different parts of Nepal since Monday. The Ministry of Home Affairs has confirmed the fatalities with highest death toll from Pyuthan district.

 Landslide and floods in Pyuthan district claimed lives of 39 people followed by Gulmi with death toll at 7.

Causalities are reported from 12 other districts including Baglung (6), Palpa (4), Rolpa (4), Makawanpur (3), Arghakhanchi (2), Jhapa (2), Rupandehi (2) and one each from Dolakha, Sarlahi, Parbat, Udayapur and Kathmandu.

According to The Himalayan Times, five persons have gone missing in Pyuthan, two each in Arghakhanchi and Gulmi, and one each in Sunsari, Saptari, Jhapa, Dang, Kaski and Kapilvastu.

Government to release Rs 750 million for disaster management

The government has decided to release Rs 750 million to immediately address the humanitarian crisis for disaster management in the wake of recent floods and landslides.

The Central Disaster Relief Committee in a meeting at the National Emergency Operations Centre decided to immediately release the amount to the affected districts for the rescue, relief and rehabilitation works.

The amount would be released from the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to the Central Disaster Relief Committee and would be mobilized in the related areas on a priority basis.

The security bodies have also been instructed to implement the disaster preparedness action plan.
