Magnitude 7.5 massive earthquake hit Hindu Kush region today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 45 km N of `Alaqahdari-ye Kiran wa Munjan. It was 132.1 miles deep.

At least sixteen people have died across Pakistan. Forty minutes after the first earthquake, another 4.8 magnitude tremor was reported in the same area.

Tremor was felt in parts of Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Nepal.

According to USGS, earthquakes such as this event, with focal depths between 70 and 300 km, are commonly termed "intermediate-depth" earthquakes.

They typically cause less damage on the ground surface above their foci than is the case with similar magnitude shallow-focus earthquakes, but large intermediate-depth earthquakes may be felt at great distance from their epicenters.
