Floods in Angola kill 64 including 35 children

Floods triggered by torrential rains have claimed lives of at least 64 people including 35 children in the Angolan city of Lobito.

The flood water has reached 3m (9.8ft) in some areas of the city since Wednesday, BBC has reported quoting the Angop state news agency.

President Jose Eduardo Santos has already ordered the local authorities to provide assistance. Lobito, Catumbela and Benguela municipalities are reported to be worst affected.

Heavy rainfall has destroyed 19 houses,  8 schools and 42 houses in Lobito, ANGOP reported.

The 2009 Angola, Namibia and Zambia floods claimed lives of at least 131 people and affected around 445,000 people.
