Ten schools in the Haldummulla Education Division are reported to be closed until Monday because of the landslide at Meeriyabedda Estate, Daily Mirror has mentioned.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa has directed the authorities to provide immediate disaster relief to the people affected by the landslide.

Landslide at Haldummulla in Badulla district of Sri Lanka has claimed lives of at least ten people. More than two hundred fifty people are reported to be missing, Disaster Management Center (DMC) said.
According to the Disaster Management Centre, an area of about two kilometres has been affected in the landslide at the Meeriabedda tea estate in Badulla district.
Landslide in Badulla, Sri Lanka caused after days of heavy rain has buried more than 140 houses but the rescue efforts are hampered by the threat of further landslides in the area, Reuters reported.
Around 500 soldiers have been deployed in the rescue operation, Military Spokesman Ruwan Wanigasuriya said Daily Mirror.
A BEL 212 helicopter is on standby in Nuwara Eliya as the adverse weather has made it impossible to get to Badulla.
Two shelter camps have been set up at Ampitikanda and Koslanda, The Disaster Management Centre added.
