Earthquake in Nottingham, United Kingdom today

An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.6 hit Mansfield, Nottingham, the British Geological Survey confirmed.

The epicenter of earthquake in Nottingham, United Kingdom today was located about 1 km from Hucknall.

Earthquake was felt by the people of Mansfield, Hucknall, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Ravenshead, Newstead Village, Papplewick, Annesley, Linby, Calverton, Bestwood Village and Blidworth, Nottinghamshire, The Bristish Geological Survey added.

According to the BBC News, a loud bang and sharp shaking was felt in the region.

The UK is not generally associated with earthquakes, however, between 20 to 30 earthquakes are felt by people each year, the British Geological Survey has written in its website.

The largest known British earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 occurred near the Dogger Bank in 1931.
