Light tremor rocks Kathmandu on Nepal earthquake anniversary

Earthquake epicenter map of Dhading
A light tremor of magnitude 4.4 has been felt across Kathmandu valley Wednesday morning at 07:04 am local time.

According to Nepal's National Seismological Center (NSC), the epicenter of the magnitude 4.4 quake was located near Marpak in Dhading district of Nepal.

Weak shaking of MMI III has been reported by the people of southern side of Kathmandu valley.

NSC has confirmed it as an aftershock of 2015 Gorkha earthquake. No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported.

Today is also the first anniversary of May 2015 earthquake according to Nepali Calendar. One year earlier, a major aftershock of magnitude 7.3 occurred near the border of Dolakha and Sindhupalchowk after 12 days of major earthquake.

This is 453th aftershock of magnitude 4 and greater recorded since 2015 Gorkha earthquake. Researchers have predicted another major earthquake in Nepal’s Gorkha district within years rather than the centuries that usually pass between quakes.
